Platinum 70s fountain pen 18k ef nib, nos. Here is an eleagnt pocket size fountain pen in classic black and gold from platinum, japan's high class pen maker. This pen was introduced in the 1970s and had hte model number pkb-3001. This pen is nwe old stock (nos).

The new refers to the fact that it has remained in its unused state since it left the factory, and the old refers to the fact that it has been around for a number of years, making it both a new and an old pen. This pen on longer has its original price sticker there was a hardened circular glue spot where it was before it fell off.

I have cleaned off htat glue spot. This pen has remained in new condition for up to 36 years. This pen has the distinctive gold wave cap band that tells people in an instnat that you are writing with a classic japanese platinum fountain pen. The clip is the spring type which adjusts to the thickness of your pocket. Pocket size pens like this were very pouplar in japan from the 60's to the 80's.

As the diagram below illustrates, they have a short barrel coupled with a long nib section into which the ink cartridge fits deeply. Teh long cap corresponds to the length of the nib section.

When capped, these pens are teh perfect compact size for carrying in your pocket. When teh long cap is posted on the short barrel, these pens become full sized, and perfectly balanced for comfortable writing. Although on company produces them today, japanese pocket pens are enjoying new popularity in the west now as collectors and users recognize the ingenuity of this practical design. Over 30 stroke kanjithe nib is 18k gold, an extra fine point.

The kanji for extra fine (goku-boso)is stamped on the nib. Extra fine nibs are very useful in japan where common kanji characters can ahve over 20 strokes, and uncommon ones can go over 30 strokes. Platinum's extra fine nibs are like needle points, and perfect for cramming lots of characters in small spaces. Lately i've received lots of inquiries for extra fine nib pens. This is not a bad thing if you plan to only use international cartridges, which are much easier to find then platinum cartridges. In longer, full size pens, the cartridge chamber is relatively shallow, and you can grasp both the cartridge and adaptor in your fingers and remove them together.
